Coaching in sport can often be quite directive and expert-led. I just came across an article that starts to explore whether or not a more inquiry-based and solution-focused “executive coaching” style may be more beneficial. It’s not an easy research question to explore or answer, but this is an excellent start.
While the results aren’t conclusive, they certainly open to the door to discussion about how athlete-coach communication impacts the coaching relationship and potential ways to improve it.
